Who does not need God’s healing in his or her life? Everyone does, including you.
There are many areas in our lives where we need healing and deliverance: health, personal, financial, emotional, work, and relationship. When we encounter problems in any of these areas, we tend to quickly doubt and lose hope because we think our problems are out of our control. We think our problems are weak and our faith – in a big God – is small. It is natural to feel that way, and one must use such an occasion to surrender to God and let go. How?
- Seek God
Don’t focus on your trauma. Instead, focus on God, who is our comforter and healer in times of trials. Seek Him and entrust your healing to Him. Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (NIV). In Matthew 11:28, it is also said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
- Repent to God
Do you ever repent of the things you have done that displease God or harm others? In many instances of healing, repentance is key. Repentance is both an admission of wrongdoing and a pledge to do better. True repentance provides us with the condition that allows God to heal us, as well as bring us back to doing what is right. We are called to repent and seek forgiveness for our sins (Matthew 3:1-3, Matthew 4:17). To repent, you must recognize your sins and feel remorse, and confess those sins to God. Turning away from those sins will bring you closer to God’s will for your healing.
- Forgive others
Realize that the way you live in relationship with other people who may have caused you pain and unhappiness will affect your relationship with God. Remember that the Bible commands us to love everyone (Matthew 5:44, Matthew 22:39) because to love God is to keep His commandments, especially to love those who reflect His image. Understand that you are called by God to live in a community that is bound to Him and others in love. So, recognize that you cannot hold grudges against others – and then expect God to forgive you. Forgiveness is the key to healing and moving forward, so you must be willing to forgive and to keep on forgiving just as God has mercifully forgiven you.
- Give to God your mind
Is your mind clouded by worries, doubts, fear, and sin? In the bible, the Apostle Paul exhorts us to “throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles us” (Hebrews 12:1 NIV). He also adds, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2). So, give to God your mind and keep His Word at the forefront of your mind. Renew your mind in God by reading the Bible, meditating on it, and praying on it, so that you may find rest, peace, healing, and grace.
- Rely on God’s Word to heal you
You can rely on the power of God’s Word to not only heal your physical pain but also do spiritual and emotional healing. You need not look further than the Bible for healing; the Bible offers proof that God’s Word heals. “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave” (Psalm 107:19-20 NIV). By reading, meditating and praying on God’s Word, we will be able to effect God’s healing power upon us.
- Listen to testimonies
It is vital to read and meditate on the Bible, which contains testimonies of healing (such as in 2 Kings 5:1-19, Matthew 8:5-13, Matthew 9:1-8, Mark 1:40-45, and John 4:46-47). It is also important to listen to people’s stories of healing, as these experiences affirm the goodness and faithfulness of God. Their testimonies will encourage you to expect and work toward your own healing.
- Pray fervently
What better way to seek God and express your faith and hope in God’s healing than through incessant prayer? The Bible says, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24 NIV). If anyone desires healing, he/she needs to look to God with faith for He promises to heal (James 5:15). So, if you want God to heal you today, believe and pray without ceasing.
- Be patient and persevere
When you offer your problems to God and ask for healing, you must wait and trust in His plan. Know that His healing power works in the invisible realm for your good. Believe that He will be faithful to lead you where He wants you to go. The Bible says, “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised” (Hebrews 10:36).
Trust and believe that God cares for you and wants nothing more than your healing. So, when you are sad and down and in need, reach up to Him for strength and need. Have faith in His promise of healing.
- Worry no more
No matter what problems you face, let go and let God. Know that your life is secure in His hands, and your healing is assured because he is a good God. He will fulfill His promise of healing at the right time. So, celebrate what He will do for you even before you are healed. Believe that you have received your healing, and you will be healed.
